The Del Norte Color Guard started in 2010, and each year we ascend to higher levels of competition and success. Our coaches Jim and Melissa Barton have been with us from the very beginning.
The Color Guard is part of the DNHS Music Program. We perform with the Marching Band at all home DNHS football games on Friday nights. During the fall (called "Field Season"), the Marching Band and Color Guard coalesce as a team and perform at competitive tournaments throughout San Diego and Southern California against other high school music programs. Each tournament is scored, and the score applies toward qualification for the end-of-season Championship tournament. Our Field Season team has made it to Championships the last two years.
During the Winter and Spring, the Color Guard team competes without the Marching Band in Winter Guard competitions throughout San Diego County, against programs from San Diego and Southern California. These competitions are scored by judges, with anticipation of making it to the West Coast Winter Guard (WCWG) Championships. In 2013 we entered the WCWG Championships ranked #1 in all of Southern California, taking a Gold medal in our qualifying round. We have performed at Disneyland and Padres games, and recently have been asked to perform at local businesses. As our program grows, we hope to be invited to even more prestigious events.
